Selling your music with EBE Records - Frequently Asked Questions

How can I sell my music with EBE Records?

EBE Records is now extending our Digital Download Service to unsigned, independent artists. Entire album downloads/sales are the only accepted format at this time. Individual track sales will be an option in the near future.

What does it cost to sell my music with EBE Records?

Unlike services such as CD Babay and Tunecore, there are no up front costs for artists selling their music with EBE Records.

How much will you sell our music for?

With EBE Records, artists set the price for music downloads - not us!

How does it all work?

Artists interested in having their music available with EBE Records should contact us through our contact page. Once the artist information and ownership is verified, we will add your digital album or EP to our shop at the price and mp3 bitrate you establish. EBE Records keeps $0.50 (fifty cents) per download to cover bandwidth and administrative costs. The remaining amount is paid to the artists via PayPal on a quarterly basis. Artists will also be provided a detailed sales report for the closing quarter.

Please note that PayPal takes a percentage from purchases made in the EBE Records shop. This is a necessary evil for EBE Records in order to provide security for our customers. For details on transaction charges, please read PayPal's Fees documentation.  EBE Records business model provides artists with a greater income potential than most online competitors.

With EBE Records there is absolutely NO exclusivity. You can sell your music through other online services and cancel at anytime without fees.

Feel free to contact us with any comments, questions or concerns you may have regarding EBE Records Digital Download Service.

Music Licensing - Frequently Asked Questions

What is the role of a Music Publisher?

As defined by ASCAP: A music publisher works with songwriters to market and promote songs, resulting in exposure of songs to the public and generating income. Music publishers "pitch" songs to record labels, movie and television producers and others who use music, then license the right to use the song and collect fees for the usage. Those fees are then split with the songwriter.

Do I really need a Music Publisher?

There are no guarantees of success in the music business - especially given the current state of the industry. Rampant music piracy had led to the largest decline in mechanical music sales in history. One of the few remaining viable means of income for artists is by licensing your music for television, film and videogames. The primary goal of EBE Records is to aggressively pitch, as well as closely match, artists songs with industry solicitations.

Can't I just pitch my songs on my own?

The harsh reality is that most industry executives immediately discard unsolicited material. Furthermore, unsigned artists usually don't have access to industry solicitations. Add to that the fact that filtering industry solicitations, submitting closely matching songs and maintaining professional communication with industry executives is incredibly time consuming - time better spent for artists to create more great songs!

Can I actually make money licensing out my music?

Yes! But as previously stated, there are no guarantees of success in the music business. Successful music licensing is dependant on very closely matching artist material with the needs specified in the industry solicitations. A solicitor may be seeking an upbeat, acoustic song sung by a female vocalist for a jingle, while another may require a heavy metal track for feature film. Solicitations vary greatly and there's never a guarantee that your track will ultimately be selected for their project. Be forewarned that EBE Records music licensing service is not for everybody. If you don't have good songs (or what people are looking for), all the pitching in the world won't help you.

Other important questions

How much money can I expect to make licensing/selling my music?

The average performing artist can expect to make little to no money in the music business. There are just too many variables involved to ever guarantee an artist is going to make it big - or, in most cases, break even. Music licensing and digital sales, however, vastly increase your chances to not only generate revenue, but also provides otherwise unattainable exposure to many industry insiders. Industry solicitations may offer anywhere between $50 to $30,000+ to license songs for a project. Competition is always fierce, but you will have satisfaction in knowing you're in the running. One lucky break is all it takes!

Will I lose the rights to my songs?

EBE Records will never ask you to sell or transfer your copyright/ownership to us at any time. However, some high profile industry solicitors may wish to obtain exclusive licensing rights to a specific song (or songs). EBE Records always provides artists the opportunity to refuse or negotiate any licensing offer.* EBE Records guarantees to never enter negotiations on the artists behalf or conduct a transaction without prior consent.

*Repeated refusal of reasonable licensing opportunities may result in termination of services from EBE Records.

Will EBE Records record my songs?

Unfortunately EBE Records does not provide audio recording or CD duplication services at this time.

How should I get my materials to EBE Records?

When contacting us regarding music sales or licensing, please do not include attachments to emails or submit hard copies unless specifically instructed to do so. Emails with attachments will be immediately deleted and packages received at the post office will remain unopened and returned to sender.
